Stephen Fry Weight Loss: Did Ozempic Impact His Weight Loss Journey?
Stephen Fry recently shared his experience with trying to lose weight using a medication called Ozempic. He talked about it on the River Café Table 4 podcast.
He mentioned that he’s quite concerned about his weight and wanted to give Ozempic a shot. Ozempic, also known as semaglutide or Wegovy, is a medicine approved by the FDA for people with type 2 diabetes.
Fry explained that he tried Ozempic years ago while he was in America. At first, he was impressed because it made him lose his appetite and even made him not want alcohol. But soon after, he started feeling really sick. He was throwing up multiple times a day, and it became too much for him to handle. So, he stopped taking it.
According to People, He said:
“I tried Ozempic years ago; I’m an early adopter of these things. I happened to be in America, and I’d read about it, and I asked my doctor in America, my physician as they like to call them, and he said, ‘I think I can get you some.’ He tried me on it, and the first week or so, I was thinking, ‘This is astonishing. Not only do I not want to eat, I don’t want any alcohol of any kind. This is going to be brilliant.”
He added,
“Then I started feeling sick, and I started getting sicker and sicker and sicker. I was literally throwing up four, five times a day and I thought, ‘I can’t do this.’ So that’s it.”
Ozempic is given as a shot once a week in either the thigh, stomach, or arm. But it can cause side effects like nausea, diarrhea, vomiting, or constipation.
This isn’t the first time Fry has talked about his weight loss journey. In 2019, he mentioned on BBC Breakfast that he had lost around 77 pounds in less than a year.
“I’ve lost a bit of weight so I’m feeling proud of myself. I was overweight, I have lost five and a half stone. I was 21 stone (294 lbs.) nearly in April. I was that heavy.”
He said he felt proud of himself and relieved when he looked in the mirror. Losing weight also helped his mental health, and he found that walking a lot improved his mood. Fry has been open about his health struggles before, including battling prostate cancer.
He had surgery to remove his prostate and shared that it was a tough experience. He emphasized how cancer is something that you never think will happen to you until it does. Despite the challenges, Fry seems to be staying positive and focused on his health.
