Selma Blair Opens Up About MS Diagnosis and Ditching Botox!

Selma Blair recently opened up about her life and health in a candid interview with Us Weekly, discussing everything from her new relationship and acting aspirations to how she manages her multiple sclerosis (MS) treatments. Blair’s journey with MS, initially misdiagnosed as menstrual issues, has significantly impacted her approach to beauty and sobriety.

Blair shared that her experience with Botox has shifted due to her health needs. She has received numerous Botox injections in her back to strengthen muscles, making cosmetic injections in her face seem unimportant.

“I’ve had 100 Botox injections in my back to strengthen muscles, and that’s made me not bother with getting Botox in my face. When you have to deal with so much for your health, you forget about what you look like.”

She explained.

Despite her health challenges, Blair continues to embrace fashion and femininity. She addressed online critics who questioned her use of a cane while also wearing heels on the red carpet. She expressed:

“People will say stuff online like, ‘She can walk without a cane; that was a lie.’ There are a million different reasons why we do what we do, so, stop judging people. There’s a lot of hate directed at those things. Like, ‘How can you wear heels?’ There’s so many dualities. But the fact is, I’m still a woman. I’m still me.”

Sobriety has been a crucial part of Blair’s journey, and she credits it with enabling her MS diagnosis. “I wouldn’t have been able to be diagnosed with MS unless I was sober. I wouldn’t be a good mom unless I was sober. I self-medicated,” she admitted.

Blair recounted a particularly difficult experience in Mexico, where excessive drinking left her dehydrated and disoriented, unaware of her neurological issues.

“I had too much to drink in Mexico. I was so messed up and dehydrated and hungover and didn’t know I had neurological issues. I didn’t understand anything. It was horrifying and humiliating. I had to grow up.”
